Who It Helps

Is this falls-prevention program right for you?

A balance and falls-prevention program may help if you:

Feel unsteady or wobbly when walking, turning or using steps.

Have had one or more falls, or near-misses, in the past 12 months.

Find it hard to get out of a chair, bed or car without using your arms a lot.

Are worried about falling and have started avoiding activities like shopping, walking outside or using public transport.

Have conditions that affect balance (e.g. joint pain, muscle weakness, some neurological or vestibular conditions), and want a structured plan to stay safe and active.

How It Works

What to expect

Consectetur adipiscing elit sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt labore et dolore magna aliqua enim minim veniam.

01.

Assessment

Your physiotherapist will:

Ask about your falls history, dizziness, medications and general health.

Screen your fall risk using standard questions and simple tests.

Check balance, leg strength, walking pattern (gait) and how you manage everyday tasks like standing up, turning and stairs. Together, you’ll set clear goals such as “walk to the shops”, “use steps safely” or “get in and out of the shower with confidence”.

02.

Program build

Based on your assessment and goals, your physio will design a personalised program that may include:

Balance drills that provide a moderate to high challenge (e.g. narrow stance, stepping, turning, dual-task activities).

Leg and core strength exercises (e.g. sit-to-stands, step-ups, heel raises) to support safer walking and transfers.

Gait training—practising walking on different surfaces, turning, and navigating obstacles.

Home safety and falls education, such as removing trip hazards, improving lighting and using appropriate footwear or aids. Sessions can be delivered in-clinic or at home, depending on your needs and funding. Where helpful, we may liaise with your GP, care coordinator or other providers.

03.

Progress & review

As you improve, we will:

Gradually progress the difficulty of exercises to keep you challenged but safe.

Re-check your balance, strength and confidence at regular intervals.

Update your home exercise plan so you can keep benefits between visits. The aim is not only to reduce falls risk but also to help you feel more confident and independent in daily life.
